Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated India’s medal winners after a highly successful 11th day at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
India’s campaign produced gold medals in the men’s team, women’s team and mixed team compound archery events. The women’s compound archery trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi also equalled the world record.
India added a historic shooting gold through Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai in the mixed team trap event. Their victory marked the country’s first-ever gold medal in this Asian Games shooting category. Neeru had already won the women’s individual trap gold and a silver in the women’s team trap event, with her individual title also being India’s first gold in that category.
Dhanda and Chenai recorded a score of 34, surpassing the Asian Games record of 30 set by Qatar earlier this year. Qatar claimed the silver medal with 32 points, while China secured bronze with 23.
Mandaviya described the result as a historic achievement and congratulated both shooters, saying the entire nation was proud of their performance.
Boxers Priya Ghangas and Kapil Pokharya won bronze medals for India. Ghangas finished with a bronze in the women’s 60 kg category after losing her semifinal bout to China’s Yang Chengyu.
The minister also praised India’s men’s compound archery team comprising Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam. The trio defeated China 238-237 in the final to win the gold medal. In his congratulatory message, Mandaviya referred to the victory as a proud moment for Indian archery and the nation.
India’s medal tally at the Asian Games has reached 58, comprising 10 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 27 bronze medals.
