MS Dhoni Drops Hint on IPL Retirement.

Amid ongoing speculation about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni has finally addressed the rumours surrounding his retirement, saying he may not return as a player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), although his association with the franchise will continue.

Speaking at a recent event, Dhoni said: “I have always said that there is a lot of time for me to decide, but if you are asking about coming back in a yellow jersey, I will always be in a yellow jersey. Whether I am playing or not is a different matter.”

The former India captain added, “Me, CSK, and we are together. You know, even for the next 15-20 years.” As the crowd erupted in cheers, Dhoni clarified with a smile, “I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years.”

Dhoni returned to the helm of CSK during the IPL 2025 season after Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained an injury.

While fans and pundits speculated that it might be his final season, neither the player nor the franchise issued an official statement. His latest comments have now provided a clearer picture, hinting at a potential end to his playing career.

Having been with the franchise since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, Dhoni has led CSK to a record-equalling five titles. At the event, he reflected on his long-standing relationship with the team and the city of Chennai.

“I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also,” Dhoni said.

The 2025 IPL campaign was a disappointing one for CSK as they finished at the bottom of the points table. Dhoni, candid as ever, acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and stressed the need to reflect on what went wrong.

“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also,” he concluded.

Though fans may not see MS Dhoni on the pitch in the familiar yellow jersey next season, his words suggest his connection with CSK remains as strong as ever — on or off the field.
