NE athletes to showcase muscle might at Asian, global bodybuilding meets

The Asian Championship is scheduled to be held in Batam, Indonesia, from August 6th to 12th. The global competition, the WBPF World Championship, will take place later in the year, from November 5th to 11th, in the Maldives.

Arunachal Pradesh's Hillang Yajik (L) Bodybuilders from Manipur (R) selected for 56th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship and the 15th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship.


Seven athletes from the northeast region, including trailblazer athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, Hillang Yajik, have been selected to represent India at the prestigious 56th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship and the 15th WBPF World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship.

 

Yajik, a resident of Kurung Kumey district, recently grabbed national attention by securing a silver medal in the women's sports physique category at the 13th Federation Cup held in Goa. 

 

Her impressive performance at the selection trials conducted by the Indian Body Builders Federation in Kochi, Kerala on May 11th and 12th sealed her place on the national team.

 

The 24-year-old will be vying for top honours in the women's model physique and swimsuit women physique categories. Yanu Kipa, acting general secretary of the Arunachal Bodybuilding Association, expressed high hopes for Yajik, commending her talent and dedication to the sport.

 

Joining Yajik from Manipur are seven bodybuilders from the All Manipur Body Builders Association (AMBBA). Th. Yaisana Meitei, a junior athlete from Royal Gym, Ningomthong, will showcase his physique in both the Mr World and Mr Asia bodybuilding categories (junior 75kg below).

 

Sakibur Yumkhaibam, another promising junior competitor from Porompat's 3 Brothers Gym, will compete in the Mr World championship (junior 75kg below). Kh. Rishikanta Singh from Friend Fitness Gym, Tera, was selected for the Mr Asia event in the same weight category.

 

The 55kg above bodybuilding category will see Engudam Kavita Chanu from Friend Fitness Gym represent India. 

 

She will be joined by Joyjeet Waikhom (Royal Gym), RK Sanathoi Meitei, and Th. Yaisana Meitei (mentioned earlier for his participation in the junior category).

 

The Asian Championship is scheduled to be held in Batam, Indonesia, from August 6th to 12th. The global competition, the WBPF World Championship, will take place later in the year, from November 5th to 11th, in the Maldives.

 

This strong contingent from the northeast region is sure to generate excitement among bodybuilding enthusiasts across the country.  

 

Yajik's performance, in particular, will be closely watched as she takes on international competition for the first time.
