India’s campaign at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship 2025 continued on a strong note as Nitesh Siwach secured the nation’s second bronze medal in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday.
Displaying remarkable prowess in the Greco-Roman category, Nitesh’s victory came after Sunil Kumar’s bronze in the men’s 87kg division.
In a dominant display, Nitesh overpowered Amanberdi Agamammedov of Turkmenistan 9-0 in the bronze medal bout, securing his win via Victory by Suppression (VSU).
The 22-year-old commenced his journey with an emphatic 9-0 triumph over Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Guchigov but faced a stern challenge in the semi-finals, where he succumbed to Iranian grappler Mohammadhadi Abdollah Saravi.
Demonstrating resilience, Nitesh staged a determined comeback in the bronze medal match, ensuring a podium finish for India.
With this victory, the Indian Greco-Roman team now boasts two bronze medals at the championship, reflecting a commendable international performance.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh, in a message from Amman, lauded the wrestlers’ achievements and their strong representation on the global stage.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Sunil Kumar showcased his mettle in the men’s 87kg category, defeating China’s Jiaxin Huang 5-1 via Victory by Points to secure India’s first bronze medal in the tournament.

However, the competition proved tough for other Indian grapplers. In the men’s 55kg division, Nitin was eliminated in the qualification round after suffering a 9-0 defeat against North Korea’s Yu Choi Ro.
Similarly, in the men’s 77kg quarter-finals, Sagar Thakran lost via Victory by Superiority to Jordan’s Amro Abed Alfattah Jamal Sadeh.
The focus now shifts to women’s wrestling, set to commence on Thursday, featuring five weight categories.
India’s contingent includes World Championship medallist Antim Panghal, along with Neha, Muskan, Monika, Mansi Lathar, Jyoti Berwal, and Reetika, who will aim to extend India’s medal tally.
The Wrestling Federation of India has fielded a formidable squad for the championship, having conducted rigorous selection trials at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.
