The Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) marked its 250th anniversary with the second edition of the Mazdock Marathon, which saw the enthusiastic participation of over 6,000 runners on Sunday.
The event, organised to commemorate two-and-a-half centuries of shipbuilding excellence, featured a 10K Challenge with six age categories for male and female participants. A prize pool of ₹5.5 lakh was distributed among podium finishers.
Adding to the excitement, a special category was introduced exclusively for MDL employees.
“A special category was introduced to motivate MDL employees, with separate awards for male and female staff, further encouraging participation and team spirit within the organisation,” read a statement issued by MDL.
The celebratory event underscored MDL’s enduring legacy and contribution to the nation. “This milestone not only highlights MDL’s 250 years of excellence in shipbuilding but also showcases the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation, quality, and national development,” the release added.
The run commenced from Azad Maidan and was flagged off by sporting luminaries Monalisa Baruah Mehta, Diana Edulji, Lalita Babar, and Aman Chaudhary.
They were joined by MDL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjeev Singhal, Director (Shipbuilding) Biju George, Vice Admiral (Retd) Vasudev Puranik, and Chief Vigilance Officer Hari Narayan Jangid.
The event attracted participants from diverse age groups and backgrounds, reinforcing MDL’s focus on inclusivity and community engagement.
