RCB falter despite Kohli's century, Rajasthan Royals claim top spot in IPL standings

Rajasthan Royals' Jos Buttler celebrates with Shimron Hetmyer after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 T20 cricket match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur on Saturday.

Jos Buttler seized the spotlight with a dazzling century, outshining Virat Kohli's valiant 113, as Rajasthan Royals clinched a six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL clash in the Pink City on Saturday.

The Rajasthan Royals continued their winning streak, securing their fourth consecutive win and claiming the top spot on the table, while Royal Challengers Bangalore slipped to the eighth position with their fourth defeat in a row.

Despite Kohli's remarkable innings, marking his eighth IPL century, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only post a below-par total of 183/3 after opting to bat first.

In contrast, England's white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler, who was celebrating his 100th IPL appearance, showcased exceptional form after enduring a lean spell in the previous season.

Buttler's scintillating knock, which included nine fours and four sixes, guided the Royals to victory with five balls to spare.

Buttler's century, coupled with a resilient partnership with skipper Sanju Samson, who contributed 69 runs from 42 balls, propelled the Royals to a comfortable win, sealing the highest partnership of the season.

The Royals' spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin played pivotal roles in stifling Royal Challengers Bangalore's innings during the middle overs, turning the tide in favour of the home side.

Chahal, in particular, proved to be a thorn in the side of his former team, executing clever variations to outfox the Royal Challengers Bangalore batters.

While Kohli's century was a commendable feat, it ultimately failed to make a significant impact as Royal Challengers Bangalore succumbed to defeat against a formidable Rajasthan Royals outfit.
