As Team India prepares to enter the Gautam Gambhir era from the glorious shadows of Rahul Dravid, speculations are rife regarding India’s T20I captain in Sri Lanka tour.
In a fresh twist to the tale of ever-changing scenarios of India’s squads, Sharma is, reportedly, set to be back as captain for the 50-overs format, ruling out the possibility of another captaincy debate between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.
Amid debate about the choice of India’s next T20I captaincy between Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, it has been learnt that Sharma will be available for the ODI leg of the limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka.
Multiple reports were suggesting that Sharma is likely to sit out the entire Sri Lanka series after playing non-stop cricket for six months.
However, as per reports, Sharma might be back in action as captain.
India to play three T20Is in Sri Lanka, starting July 27 before the ODIs begin on August 2.
Sharma, who retired from the shortest format after leading India to a T20 World Cup title after 17 years, might have decided to change his stance on taking a long break after discussions with new coach Gambhir.
As these are among the only six ODIs India play before next year’s Champions Trophy, it might have been decided that Sharma should not give the series a miss.
Additionally, if this happens head coach Gambhir will get to team up with Sharma and put plans in motion for next year’s marquee event.
