A scintillating knock from Quinton de Kock guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their IPL encounter at the Barsapara Stadium on Wednesday.
Opting to field first, KKR’s disciplined bowling unit, spearheaded by Varun Chakravarthy (2/17) and Moeen Ali (2/23), restricted Rajasthan Royals to a modest 151/9.
In response, De Kock produced a masterclass in controlled aggression, remaining unbeaten on 97 off 61 balls, with eight boundaries and six maximums, as KKR comfortably chased down the target in 17.3 overs.
Despite a sluggish surface, the South African wicketkeeper-batsman timed the ball exquisitely, ensuring his side never lost control of the chase. KKR’s pursuit was largely untroubled, with the required run rate hovering around a run-a-ball.
Early setbacks saw Moeen Ali (5) and skipper Ajinkya Rahane (18) dismissed cheaply, but De Kock anchored the innings with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (22 off 17), putting on an unbroken 83-run partnership in just 44 deliveries to seal victory.
De Kock, in sublime form, eschewed unnecessary risks, instead favouring elegant strokes along the ground while dispatching loose deliveries to the fence. He dismantled Jofra Archer’s pace assault with calculated aggression, clubbing a four and a six in the same over.
His half-century came in just 35 balls, highlighted by a towering six off Wanindu Hasaranga over wide long-on.
The Royals’ bowling attack appeared to miscalculate their strategy, over-relying on spin, allowing KKR’s batters to settle into a rhythm.

Hasaranga, historically successful against De Kock, was dominated on this occasion.
Jofra Archer’s delayed introduction in the 18th over, when KKR required only 17 runs, proved inconsequential as De Kock finished the contest in style, dispatching the English speedster for a boundary and two sixes.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals had begun promisingly, reaching 54/1 in the powerplay with Yashasvi Jaiswal (29 off 24) and local lad Riyan Parag (25 off 15) at the crease.
Leading RR for the first time on home soil, Parag exhibited early intent, lofting Harshit Rana over square leg for a six off his third ball before executing the shot of the match – a pristine straight drive off Vaibhav Arora.
Jaiswal, dropped on 19, capped off the powerplay with a six, but KKR struck back decisively. Chakravarthy’s deceptive 113 kph delivery accounted for Parag in the seventh over, triggering a collapse.
Moeen Ali and Chakravarthy wreaked havoc on the middle order, dismissing crucial batters in consecutive overs.
Vaibhav Arora (2/33) contributed with a vital powerplay scalp, clean-bowling Sanju Samson (13 off 11) with a yorker, before removing impact substitute Shubham Dubey (9).
Harshit Rana (2/36) played a key role at the death, claiming the wickets of Dhruv Jurel (33 off 28) and Shimron Hetmyer (7) in the penultimate over.
Jofra Archer’s brisk 16 from seven balls salvaged RR’s total, but he fell to Spencer Johnson (1/42) on the second-last delivery of the innings, leaving KKR with a chaseable target.
The defending champions never wavered, with De Kock’s assured innings ensuring a dominant triumph.
