Rajasthan enter the contest after a disappointing defeat to Delhi Capitals on Sunday night.

With their playoff hopes hanging by a slender thread, Rajasthan Royals will be desperate for a complete turnaround when they take on the already-eliminated Lucknow Super Giants in their Indian Premier League clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday.

The Royals, who are yet to register a win at their home venue this season, face a virtual must-win situation in what will be their final league game in Jaipur. Any further slip-up could officially end their chances of making the top four. After this encounter, RR will play their final league fixture against another struggling side, Mumbai Indians.

Rajasthan enter the contest after a disappointing defeat to Delhi Capitals on Sunday night in a game they were expected to win comfortably. Their batting unit failed to capitalise on a strong platform as a lower-order collapse derailed the chase. The bowling and fielding efforts also left much to be desired, with the team failing to deliver in crucial moments.

A major positive for RR this season has been the emergence of 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has consistently provided aggressive starts at the top. However, the youngster has not received enough support from opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, whose form has fluctuated during the campaign.

Middle-order batter Dhruv Jurel has also impressed with several classy innings this season, though his knock against Delhi Capitals was relatively restrained as wickets kept tumbling around him. Captain Riyan Parag, after enduring a quiet first half of the tournament, has gradually regained momentum with the bat in recent matches. The Royals skipper will now expect his side to be more efficient, particularly in the final overs where they have repeatedly failed to maximise scoring opportunities.

Fielding has been a recurring concern not only for Rajasthan but across several teams in this IPL season. RR, too, have paid the price for dropped catches and sloppy work in the field. Following the defeat to Delhi, Parag openly admitted his frustration over the team’s inability to perform to its potential during the crucial stage of the tournament.

“The fielding was poor. If we continue to play like this, we do not deserve to be in contention for the top four,” Parag had said after the match. He also acknowledged that Rajasthan’s playoff qualification now depends heavily on results involving other teams. “I do not like leading a side that has to depend on others. If we fail to qualify, it will be our fault and nobody else’s,” he admitted, while expressing hope that the team could still finish strongly with victories in the remaining matches. Parag, however, is also dealing with a hamstring niggle ahead of the important clash.

Lucknow Super Giants, meanwhile, arrive with little to lose after already being knocked out of playoff contention. Despite enduring a disappointing season, LSG will be eager to spoil Rajasthan’s campaign and finish the tournament on a positive note. They come into the game after securing a morale-boosting victory over Chennai Super Kings on May 15.

Batting inconsistencies have hurt Lucknow throughout the season, but Mitchell Marsh produced a match-winning performance against CSK to guide the team to a rare success. Captain Rishabh Pant, who has struggled to settle into a fixed batting role this season, chose not to bat in the previous game, allowing other players more time at the crease.

Although their campaign is effectively over, Lucknow will aim to make the most of their final two fixtures, including the upcoming game against Punjab Kings, in an effort to salvage some pride from an otherwise forgettable IPL season.
