Aryna Sabalenka will aim to defend her U.S. Open crown on Saturday when she faces American Amanda Anisimova in the women’s final at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Belarusian, top-seeded and 27, is chasing her fourth Grand Slam title and second consecutive trophy in New York, seeking to emulate Serena Williams’ 2012-14 feat.
Sabalenka has reached three major finals in 2025, each time against an American opponent. She fell to Madison Keys at the Australian Open and to Coco Gauff at Roland Garros. Last year, she defeated Jessica Pegula in the U.S. Open final, establishing a winning record on American soil.
Anisimova, 24, from New Jersey, holds a 6-3 career edge over Sabalenka, having beaten her in the Wimbledon semifinals in July. She rebounded from a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Iga Swiatek in her previous Slam final to defeat Swiatek in the U.S. Open quarterfinals and Naomi Osaka in the semifinals, securing her second career major final.
The young American, who claimed the U.S. Open junior title in 2017 and reached the French Open semifinals in 2019, overcame a period of burnout and a steep climb back from outside the top 350 in the rankings. Her breakthrough at Wimbledon this year pushed her into the top 10, and she enters the final seeded eighth.
The final promises a clash of resilience and power, as Sabalenka looks to maintain her dominance, while Anisimova seeks to build on her growing momentum against one of the sport’s premier players.
