Sachin Tendulkar (L) interacts with Vinod Kambli

In recent cricket news, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar offered his unwavering support to his childhood friend and former teammate Vinod Kambli during a heartfelt memorial event honoring their late coach, Ramakant Achrekar.

The event, held at the iconic Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Achrekar's 92nd birth anniversary, was a deeply emotional occasion for both players.

Vinod Kambli paid a touching tribute to their mentor by singing the classic song "Sar Jo Tera Chakraye" from the 1957 film Pyaasa. The performance resonated with attendees, as Kambli expressed his gratitude to the coach who shaped the careers of many cricketing greats, including himself and Tendulkar.

Despite facing personal struggles in recent years, Kambli delivered a moving performance that left the audience emotional.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, visibly moved by the tribute, applauded warmly as Kambli poured his heart into the song. Tendulkar and Kambli, who were coached together under Achrekar’s guidance, share a bond that dates back to their childhood.

An emotional reunion

Earlier at the event, Tendulkar met a frail-looking Kambli during the inauguration of Achrekar’s memorial at Shivaji Park. A video shared by Shivaji Park Gymkhana captured the poignant interaction.

Kambli, who appeared physically weak and struggled to stand, held Sachin’s hand for an extended moment before the cricketing icon walked away. The moment left fans concerned about Kambli's health.

Tendulkar's legendary career

As cricket news often highlights, Sachin Tendulkar is celebrated as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Over his illustrious career, he amassed a staggering 34,357 runs in 664 international matches, averaging 48.52.

He holds the record for the most runs in both Test and ODI formats, with 15,921 Test runs (53.78 average) and 18,426 ODI runs (44.83 average).

Tendulkar remains the only player to score 100 international centuries, alongside 164 half-centuries. He also became the first cricketer to hit a double century in ODIs and played an unprecedented 200 Test matches.

World Cup glory

Sachin Tendulkar’s crowning achievement came in 2011 when he was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup, defeating Sri Lanka in the final. After debuting in the World Cup in 1992, Tendulkar’s dream of lifting the prestigious trophy came true after nearly two decades.

While Tendulkar didn’t win an ICC Champions Trophy during his career, he participated in five campaigns and maintained solid performances in the tournament.

A bond forged through cricket

The legacy of Ramakant Achrekar continues to live on through his proteges, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli. As the two honoured their mentor, their emotional tributes reminded the world of the enduring impact of great teachers and the lasting friendships forged on cricket grounds.
