India's top junior tennis players, Senthil Kumar and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, will lead the country's challenge at the upcoming ITF J300 event, which is set to begin on January 6 at the DLTA complex in Delhi.
The prestigious tournament will feature some of the best young talents in the world, with both boys' and girls' categories offering a platform for players to showcase their skills.
Senthil Kumar, who had a standout 2024 season with several finals appearances on the ITF junior circuit, will compete in the boys' singles event.
He will be joined by other top-ranked Indian players, including Hitesh Chauhan (R3), Arnav Paparkar (R4), and Varun Verma (R5), all of whom have secured their spots in the main draw. These players will be looking to make an impact on home soil and earn valuable ranking points.
International players also make up a competitive field, with the likes of Ukraine's Nikta Bilozertsev, ranked 87th in the world, and Turkey's Haydar Cem Gokpinar (R111) in the boys' draw.
In the girls' singles event, India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi will face stiff competition from top players such as Bulgaria’s World No. 51 Yoana Konstantinova, France's World No. 71 Eleejah Inisan, and compatriot Daphnee Mpetshi Perricard (R73). Other notable players in the girls' draw include Ada Kumru (R74) and Petra Konjikusic (R75).
Rishita Reddy Basireddy is the only other Indian player in the girls’ singles main draw, and several others will look to secure a spot in the main tournament through the ongoing qualifying rounds.
The ITF J300 event is a significant step for Indian tennis, offering local players an opportunity to compete at a higher level and gain crucial exposure. This tournament, which ranks just below the J500 level in the ITF junior circuit, promises to be an exciting and highly competitive event.
Rohit Rajpal, the president of the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA), highlighted the importance of such events in fostering the growth of Indian tennis. He stated, “It is our endeavour to give Indian players enough opportunities to earn ranking points. The J300 event is a great way to bring more opportunities for Indian players.”
Rajpal also pointed out that while DLTA has hosted several J200 events, this will be the first time they are hosting a J300 tournament, a step up in the junior tennis circuit. With a strong field of international players, the event will not only provide valuable exposure for Indian talents but also contribute to the development of tennis in the country.
The tournament organisers have also announced the wild card entries for the main draw. In the boys’ category, wild cards have been awarded to Shanker Heisnam Samarth Sahita, Aarav Chawla, and Rian Sharma. In the girls’ event, Aishwarya Jadhav, Mahika Khanna, Riya Sachdeva, and Aishi Bisht will receive the coveted wild card entries.
