Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik on Saturday announced that he has married Pakistani actor Sana Javed in Karachi. This news comes after rumors of his divorce from Indian tennis star Sania Mirza surfaced recently.
The 41 year old cricketer, who was previously married to Sania Mirza and shares a five-year-old son named Izaan with her, took to social media to share a photo with his new wife, accompanied by the caption "And we created you in pairs."
According to Sania Mirza's father, Imran Mirza, the divorce was initiated by Sania through a process known as 'khula,' which grants Muslim women the right to unilaterally divorce their husbands.
Rumours of discord between Shoaib and Sania had been circulating since 2022, and the couple had been seldom seen together in recent years. Malik recently unfollowed Sania Mirza on Instagram, adding fuel to the speculations.
Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza tied the knot in April 2010 in a ceremony held in Hyderabad, India, Sania's hometown. The couple had been residing in Dubai.
Sana Javed, a popular actor known for her roles in hit drama serials and Pakistani films, was previously married to singer Umair Jaiswal in 2020. However, reports of their divorce surfaced just two months before Shoaib Malik's announcement.
Sania Mirza, one of India's most accomplished tennis players, declared her retirement from the sport last year after a successful career spanning two decades. With 43 WTA doubles titles and one singles trophy, Sania has been a trailblazer for women in sports in India and abroad.
