The BCCI’s Men's Selection Committee has named India’s squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka, appointing Shubman Gill as captain with KL Rahul as his deputy. The tour gets under way with a four-day warm-up match in Colombo from August 7, before the first Test begins at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on August 15. The second and final Test is scheduled at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club between August 23 and 27.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been selected, though his participation relies on passing a final fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. B Sai Sudharsan is similarly waiting on medical clearance before joining the action. Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the opening match with a hamstring problem, opening the door for Saransh Jain, who earns his maiden call-up to the senior Test team as cover.
There is better news on the injury front with Ravindra Jadeja returning to the fold after recovering from a tennis elbow issue picked up during May's Indian Premier League. His return provides a welcome boost to the spin department on helpful subcontinental pitches. The remaining squad features Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and Devdutt Padikkal.
The series forms part of the ongoing 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle, where India currently sit fifth in the standings. Gill’s side have collected 52 points — a points percentage of 48.15 — following a record of four wins, four defeats, and a draw across nine matches.
