Suryakumar Yadav, in his first win after becoming the captain, gained his 16th Player of the Match title, equivalent to Virat Kohli’s world record of this title, in half the match-time.
India won by 43 runs against Sri Lanka yesterday in the first match of the T20I series, having the novel captain Suryakumar Yadav, aka Sky, grabbing the title of Player of the match in his 69th match.
Whereas, star batter Virat Kohli clinched his 16th title at the World Cup winning match last month, which was his 125th match.
After Kohli, comes all-rounder Sikander Raza from Zimbabwe, who has grabbed 15 Player of the match titles. Following Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Nabi from Afghanistan, each with 14.
Team India, in its first match of the T20I series between Ind and SL, scored 213/7 in 20 overs, with skipper Sky leading the front, scoring 58 runs off 26 balls. India fashionable won the match against the island nation, having Sky at the center of the match, and great knocks from Yashaswi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill.
Speaking after winning the match and the title, Sky said,
“We were fortunate that there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup reminded us that the game was still too far. Whatever works for the team, we'll take the call.”
Sky also appreciated the way the Lankans played and said,
“They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo; credit goes to them. We know how the wicket plays in the night.”
From the host, Mathisha Pathirana took four wickets in four overs however, the highest scorer was Pathum Nissanak, who made 79 runs off 48 balls with seven fours and four sixes.
The host nation routed by scoring 170 runs in 19.2 overs, having the men in blue lead with 1-0.
