Suryakumar Yadav was on Saturday appointed as India's captain for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which will also witness the return of pacer Mayank Yadav.
Yadav’s selection comes after he completed a five-month rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) following an injury during the IPL.
The 22-year-old pacer from Delhi impressed during his IPL stint with the Lucknow Super Giants, consistently bowling at speeds of 150 km/h.
He earned back-to-back Player of the Match awards before being sidelined with a lower abdominal strain.
Now fully fit, Yadav has been bowling up to 15 overs a day at the NCA.
The Bangladesh series will allow the national selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir to assess his performance at the international level.
If he handles the workload well, Yadav could gradually be eased into longer formats like the Ranji Trophy, with hopes of a long career in Indian cricket.
The squad also includes young talents like Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Harshit Rana. Jitesh Sharma will be the second wicketkeeper behind Sanju Samson. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy returns to the team after three years, following his last appearance in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
India will start the series with the first match at Gwalior on October 6.
