Cricket has seen strange dismissals. But Sai Sudharsan may have just produced the IPL’s greatest accidental comedy act.
During Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the stylish left-hander became only the second player in IPL playoff history to be dismissed hit wicket. But this was no ordinary hit wicket. This was slapstick cricket at its finest.
Facing RCB pacer Jacob Duffy in the third over, Sudharsan looked in sublime touch. He rocked back and played a cracking cut shot that sped to the boundary ropes. Mission accomplished, or so he thought. What happened next looked less like cricket and more like a deleted scene from a comedy movie.
As Sudharsan completed the shot, the bat slipped dramatically from his hands, flew behind him and cannoned into the stumps. The batter had already started running before turning back in disbelief to see the bails on the ground and his innings over at 14.
The dismissal instantly went viral, with fans across social media struggling to decide whether to laugh, replay the clip for the hundredth time, or both.

“RCB finally found a bowler who can dismiss set batters consistently — the batter’s own bat,” one fan posted on X. Another wrote: “Sai Sudharsan scored runs and took wickets in the same delivery. Proper all-rounder.” One particularly brutal fan joked: “Jacob Duffy should thank physics for the wicket.” Marvel fans also joined the fun. “That bat returned like Thor’s hammer — except it attacked its own teammate,” read another viral post.
The incident immediately earned a place among sport’s funniest moments. Cricket has always had a special relationship with chaos — from Herschelle Gibbs celebrating a catch before actually taking it, to fielders colliding while attempting simple catches.
Football too has delivered its share of unforgettable bloopers, including Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip for Liverpool and goalkeepers accidentally kicking the ball into their own net. But Sudharsan’s dismissal belongs in a category of its own because it combined timing, elegance, athleticism and total disaster in one delivery. Perhaps the funniest part was that the shot itself was excellent. Technically, Sudharsan did almost everything right. Unfortunately, his bat had other plans.
One fan summed it up perfectly online: “Only in cricket can you hit a boundary and lose your wicket at the same time.”
The clip has since spread across the internet at lightning speed, becoming instant meme material and adding another unforgettable chapter to the IPL’s rich history of madness, mayhem and moments nobody could possibly script.
