The 1983 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, led by Kapil Dev, has stepped forward to support Vinod Kambli, who is facing serious health issues.

Sunil Gavaskar, a key member of the iconic team, confirmed this, days after Kapil Dev expressed a similar intention to help Kambli.

Concerns about Kambli's well-being grew after videos surfaced showing him clinging to his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar during a memorial event for their late coach, Ramakant Achrekar.

In one viral clip, Kambli held onto Tendulkar's hand, refusing to let go. Another video showed him singing a Bollywood song, where his speech appeared impaired. Earlier in August, a video of Kambli struggling to walk shocked fans further.

Sunil Gavaskar, referring to Kambli as a 'son,' emphasized the team's commitment to helping him.

"The 1983 team considers younger players like Kambli as family. We are deeply concerned when their fortunes decline. I don’t like calling it help—it’s about taking care of them. We want to help Vinod Kambli get back on his feet and support other cricketers in similar situations," Gavaskar said during a broadcast from Adelaide.

Former pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu also highlighted Kapil Dev’s proactive approach. "Kapil has assured financial support if Kambli opts for rehabilitation. However, he must commit to the process, and we’ll cover all expenses, regardless of the duration," Sandhu explained.

Kambli, once a rising star in Indian cricket, made a sensational debut with double centuries against England and Zimbabwe. Despite an impressive Test batting average of 54, his career ended abruptly after just 17 matches, with his last Test played in 1998.

As Kambli battles these challenges, the 1983 World Cup-winning team’s support underscores their strong bond and commitment to cricketing fraternity members in need.
