Tanvi, Srikanth advance to next round of US Open badminton

World Junior Championship silver medallist Tanvi Sharma and experienced campaigner Kidambi Srikanth made impressive starts to their US Open badminton campaign, registering convincing victories to advance to the next round of the tournament.


Tanvi, one of India's brightest young badminton talents, overcame Germany's Yvonne Li in a competitive women's singles opening-round encounter. The Indian youngster showed remarkable composure in crucial moments to secure a 23-21, 21-16 victory and continue her strong run of form on the international circuit.


Joining her in the second round was Devika Sihag, the reigning Thailand Masters champion, who delivered a dominant performance against Peru's Ines Lucia Castillo. Devika controlled the match from the outset and comfortably wrapped up a 21-14, 21-14 win to move ahead in the competition.


In the men's singles draw, the tournament witnessed an all-Indian clash featuring two promising shuttlers. Rounak Chouhan emerged victorious against former World Junior Championships silver medallist S Sankar Muthusamy, winning 23-21, 21-16. The match was closely contested in the opening game, but Rounak maintained his momentum and sealed the contest in straight games.

Fifth-seeded Kidambi Srikanth also progressed with ease after defeating compatriot D Saneeth in another all-Indian first-round encounter. The former world championship medallist was in complete control throughout the match and cruised to a 21-14, 21-12 victory in just 30 minutes, underlining his experience and superior court craft.


Rakshitha Sree added to India's successful day by securing her place in the next round with a commanding 21-15, 21-8 win over Tereza Svabikova of the Czech Republic. After a competitive opening game, Rakshitha raised her intensity in the second and wrapped up the contest comfortably.


India also enjoyed success in the mixed doubles event. The pair of Dhruv Rawat and K Maneesha delivered an assured performance to defeat Indonesia's Wirawan Ihsan Adam and Serena Kani. The Indian duo displayed excellent coordination and attacking play to register a 21-15, 21-16 victory in just 26 minutes.


With several Indian players advancing across singles and doubles categories, the opening day of the US Open proved to be a productive one for the country's contingent, providing positive momentum as the tournament progresses into the later rounds.
