Hyderabad FC has parted ways with head coach Thangboi Singto following a disappointing start to the current Indian Super League (ISL) season. The club, which sits in 12th place on the points table, has struggled to find form with only two wins and one draw from their first 11 matches.
Singto, who had been with Hyderabad FC for nearly five years, took over as head coach in July 2023 after serving in various roles within the club, including assistant coach and technical director for youth development since 2020.
Despite his long tenure and contributions to the club, the team's underperformance this season led to the decision to part ways.
In a statement, Hyderabad FC expressed gratitude to Singto for his dedication and professionalism during his time with the club. They also wished him the best for his future endeavours.
Assistant coach Shameel Chembakath has been appointed as the interim head coach while the club seeks a permanent replacement.
Singto’s departure follows a similar move by Kerala Blasters, who recently dismissed their head coach Mikael Stahre due to poor results in the ongoing ISL campaign.
While Singto’s time at Hyderabad FC was marked by challenges, he also guided the team through some notable achievements, including a historic win with an all-Indian squad in an ISL match last season.
Prior to his time with Hyderabad FC, the Manipur-born coach had a successful stint with Shillong Lajong in the I-League and served as an assistant coach for both NorthEast United and Kerala Blasters in the ISL.
Hyderabad FC will look to bounce back from this setback when they host NorthEast United FC on Monday, with Chembakath at the helm for the time being. The club will be hoping for a change in fortunes as they aim to move up the points table and rediscover their form in the competition.
