India Under-19 held their nerve in a rain-hit thriller to defeat Bangladesh Under-19 by 18 runs in their second Group match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup on Saturday, strengthening their position in the tournament.
Chasing a revised DLS target of 165 in a 29-over contest, Bangladesh mounted a spirited fight but were bowled out under pressure as India’s bowlers produced crucial breakthroughs at key moments. Vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra starred with the ball, claiming four wickets in a decisive spell that swung the match India’s way.
Earlier, India were bowled out for 238 in 49 overs after opting to bat. Left-hander Vaibhav Suryavanshi top-scored with a fluent 72 off 67 balls, striking six fours and three sixes, while wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu anchored the innings with a composed 80. Kanishk Chouhan added valuable runs lower down the order as India recovered from early setbacks.
Bangladesh pacer Al Fahad impressed with the ball, exploiting a slow surface to pick up key wickets, while Iqbal Hossain also troubled the Indian batters with pace and bounce.

In reply, Bangladesh began steadily, with captain Azizul Hakim Tamim compiling a fighting half-century to keep the chase alive. However, India tightened the screws through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, with Malhotra striking at crucial junctures. Khilan Patel and Henil Patel also chipped in as wickets fell in quick succession.
With Bangladesh needing 19 runs in the final over and only one wicket in hand, Henil Patel held his nerve to close out the game, triggering celebrations in the Indian camp.
The victory follows India’s opening win over the USA and further underlines their status as one of the tournament favourites as they continue their campaign with growing confidence.
