Rajasthan Royals 2025 pick, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, stunned everyone when he scored a century in 35 balls while chasing 210 runs against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.

Following his remarkable innings, the young batsman has been trending across social media platforms. Some fans are drawing parallels between the 14-year-old cricket prodigy and Karan, the fictional character from the 2007 Bollywood film Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii. In the movie, Karan, a young orphan, rises from humble beginnings to cricketing stardom with the help of a magical bat once owned by a legendary player.

A dive into Vaibhav’s life and practice sessions:

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, born on 27 March 2011, comes from a modest farming family in Motipur village, Samastipur, Bihar. He gained attention by scoring a century on his debut in a U-19 Youth Test match against Australia at age 12.

In November 2024, Rajasthan Royals secured him for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL 2025 auction.

He marked his IPL debut memorably, hitting a six off his first delivery.

Started training at nine:

Manish Ojha, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s coach, talked about the cricketer’s journey in an interview with Cricketnext.

Ojha noted that Vaibhav started training with him at nine, travelling 100 kilometres from Samastipur to Patna every other day for practice.

“Vaibhav came to me when he was around nine years old. The distance from his native Samastipur to Patna is around 100 km, and he used to come to my coaching centre every alternate day. Vaibhav used to start training around 7:30 am and continued till the evening, before travelling back home. He has followed this schedule for over four years,” said Vaibhav’s coach.

Father sold land to support Vaibhav:

Sanjiv Suryavanshi, Vaibhav’s father, was himself an aspiring cricketer. According to media reports, he sold farmland to support Vaibhav’s dream.

The coach stated, “Vaibhav and his father had long ago made up their minds that the boy will play cricket. The father wanted to play cricket, but he couldn’t. So, he tried to live his dream through his son.”

Not only Vaibhav’s father but also his mother played a significant role in his success.

“Vaibhav kept on getting fame in Bihar, but his parents have played a huge role. His mother woke up early at 4 am and prepared food for Vaibhav. His father accompanied him to training and matches. We did contribute as coaches, but his parents are the driving forces,” Ojha said.

Vaibhav’s meteoric rise has inspired many in Bihar, where cricket infrastructure is limited. As the youngest player in IPL 2025, Vaibhav is already being hailed as a future star of Indian cricket.
