Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson are set to make their debut with Red Bull Racing's 2025 Formula 1 car, the RB21. The car will be unveiled just one day before the start of the pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.
This debut marks a significant milestone for the team as the RB21 will be the first Formula 1 car designed without the legendary Adrian Newey.
Newey, who had designed all of Red Bull’s championship-winning cars, left the team at the end of last season and joined Aston Martin. Despite this change, Red Bull remains confident in their new car's potential.
The much-anticipated reveal of the RB21 livery will take place at the F1 75 event, which is set to be held at the O2 Arena in London on February 18th. This event will bring together all the teams, drivers, and team principals, with Red Bull’s Christian Horner, Max Verstappen, and Liam Lawson in attendance.
Following the reveal, the car will make its track debut during Red Bull's filming day on February 25th in Sakhir, Bahrain. Verstappen will be the first to drive the new car, with Lawson following soon after. This filming day is strictly limited to 200km of running, using Pirelli demonstration tyres.
Pierre Wache, the French engineer responsible for designing the RB21, has emphasised that the car was built with performance improvements in mind.
Speaking during last year's Belgian Grand Prix, Wache outlined the team’s vision for their new challenger and the direction they hoped to take in terms of development.
While Red Bull had a strong showing in the Constructors’ Championship in 2023, finishing third with 589 points, the team was ultimately outpaced by McLaren and Ferrari, falling short of defending their titles from the previous two seasons.
As the new season approaches, Verstappen is excited to see how the car performs, and he’s particularly eager to see a fresh livery design. The Dutch driver, who has been with Red Bull since his Formula 1 debut in 2016, has expressed a desire for something more exciting this year.
Speaking on the Talking Bull podcast last year, Verstappen noted that he would like to see a glossier finish to the car’s livery, a departure from the team’s long-standing colour scheme.
Max Verstappen, who has been with Red Bull for nearly a decade, has enjoyed significant success during his time with the team. With four World Drivers' Championships under his belt, Verstappen has been a dominant force in recent seasons, securing nine wins and 14 podium finishes last year alone.
As the 2025 season looms, he remains hopeful that the new RB21 will help him continue his winning streak and add to his already impressive career achievements.
