The West Indies bowled out Australia for 180 in 57 overs on the opening day of the first Test match between the two countries at Barbados, but the tricky Kensington Oval pitch left them reeling as well at 57/4 at the end of the day’s play. This was Australia’s lowest Test total in the West Indies after batting first.
Brandon King, unbeaten on 23 on his debut, was lucky to be dropped thrice. While Jayden Seales took 5-60, the West Indian’s third Test five-for, Shamar Joseph took four wickets for 46 runs. Only three Australian batsmen could reach double figures: Usman Khawaja (47), Travis Head (59) and captain Pat Cummins (28).
West Indies opened their innings on a shaky note with Kraigg Brathwaite not able to get through the fifth over, nicking Mitchell Starc on 4. Starc also got the edge of the other opener, John Campbell, on 7. While Cummins took the wicket of Keacy Carty for 20, Josh Hazlewood removed night watchman Jomel Worrican for a duck.
