The second One-Day International between West Indies and Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain.

The second One-Day International between the West Indies cricket team and the Sri Lanka national cricket team was abandoned without a single ball being bowled after persistent rain made play impossible.

Sri Lanka currently leads the three-match series 1-0, having secured a 41-run victory in the opening game on Thursday. That win was particularly significant as it marked the first victory for new head coach Gary Kirsten, and also ended a 13-year wait for an ODI win in the Caribbean for the visiting side.

Earlier in the day, West Indies had won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping to take advantage of early conditions under lights at Sabina Park in Kingston. However, steady and unrelenting rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening prevented any chance of play.

Despite multiple inspections and brief hopes of a delayed start, the umpires were eventually forced to call off the day-night fixture at around 6:30 p.m. local time.

The disappointing washout left only a handful of dedicated spectators in the stands, with most fans having already departed as the weather showed no signs of improving. Ground staff worked continuously to manage the conditions, but the outfield remained too wet for safe play.

Attention now turns to the third and final ODI, scheduled to be played in Kingston on Monday, where West Indies will look to level the series and Sri Lanka will aim to seal it. The ODI series will be followed by a set of three Twenty20 internationals and two Test matches, making it a full tour across formats for both sides.
