Day 14 of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics sees thrilling finishes as Norway leads medal table, US climbs to second.


The 14th day of the Winter Olympics in Italy saw some thrilling finishes on the ice and snow tracks in Cortina and Milano on Friday.
 
As the 2026 Winter Olympics are entering the penultimate day, the Games are also approaching their climax ahead of Sunday’s closing ceremony.
 
Day 14 featured action with high stakes, featuring up to eight medal events across disciplines, including freestyle skiing, biathlon, speed skating, short track, curling, and the men's ice hockey semi-finals.
 
In the men’s ice hockey semi-finals, two of the best North American sides, Team USA and Team Canada, reached their respective semi-finals with dominant performances.
 
The US overcame Sweden in a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory in the quarter-finals, with Quinn Hughes scoring the decisive goal. Canada edged the Czech Republic 4-3 in overtime.
 
 
The day saw the women’s ski cross final at Livigno Snow Park, followed by men's aerials finals (rescheduled due to earlier weather) and men's freeski halfpipe action. The events on Friday also included speed skating and short track.
 
In long-track speed skating, the short-track finals include the men's 5000m relay and women's 1500m.
 
The table leaders, Norway, maintained a commanding lead, on course to top the table for a third consecutive Winter Games.
 
The United States overtook the host nation, Italy, into second after a strong Day 14 haul, including gold in women's ice hockey (2-1 overtime win over Canada) and figure skating (Alysa Liu's title).
 
Norway: 16 gold, 8 silver, 10 bronze — 34 total, United States: 9 gold, 12 silver, 6 bronze — 27 total, Italy (hosts): 9 gold, 5 silver, 12 bronze — 26 total, Japan: 5 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze — 24 total, Germany: 5 gold, 8 silver, 8 bronze — 21 total.
