Yashasvi's double century, Jadeja's fifer shine as India demolish England by 434 runs

England resisted their desire to play Bazball' but the Indian bowlers led by Jadeja (5/41) were an irresistible force, as they hustled out the tourists for 122 in their second innings while chasing an improbable 557-run target.

Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrates his double century in India's second innings at the Rajkot test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's extraordinary double century seamlessly complemented the outstanding performance of five-wicket maestro Ravindra Jadeja, propelling a dominant India to a historic 434-run victory over England on the fourth day of the third Test on Sunday.

In a resolute effort, England refrained from attempting 'Bazball,' but the relentless Indian bowlers, led by Jadeja (5/41), proved unstoppable, dismissing the visitors for 122 in their second innings while chasing an ambitious 557-run target.

With this triumph, India now leads the five-match series 2-1, marking their most substantial Test cricket victory in terms of runs, surpassing the previous 372-run win against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in 2021.

Jaiswal's unbeaten 214 off 236 balls, featuring an equaling record of 12 sixes in a Test innings, served as the cornerstone for India's second innings total of 430 for four declared. This set the stage for a commanding lead of 556 runs earlier in the day.

Jadeja capitalized on this platform, thwarting England's aspirations of pursuing aggressive strategies in significant chases. India's attacking wicket-taking strategy dismantled England's top order, with support from Kuldeep Yadav (2/19), Jasprit Bumrah (1/18), and Ravichandran Ashwin (1/19).

Despite a late resistance from Mark Wood (33), England eventually succumbed to 122 from 82 for eight. Jaiswal and debutant Sarfaraz Khan showcased brilliance, with Shubman Gill contributing a notable 91.

Jaiswal's exceptional form saw him becoming the first player to hit 20 sixes in a series, breaking India's record for most sixes (48) in a series.

His six-hitting spree established him alongside Pakistan legend Wasim Akram for the most sixes (12) in a Test innings, setting a new record for India.

The 22-year-old Jaiswal also joined an elite group, including Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli, as the third Indian ever to score consecutive double centuries in two games, while surpassing the 500-run mark in only the third Test of the series.

Moreover, Jaiswal emerged as the leading run-scorer in the current ICC World Test Championship cycle, surpassing Australia's Usman Khawaja with 861 runs in seven Tests at an impressive average of 71.75, featuring three centuries and two fifties.

Sarfaraz Khan's maiden Test performance, highlighted by an unbeaten 68, adds to England's concerns, especially his prowess against spinners, setting the stage for the upcoming fourth Test in Ranchi from Friday.
