The BJP government in Gujarat launched 'Vikas Saptah' on Monday to commemorate the state's development under the leadership of Narendra Modi, who served as chief minister from 2001 to 2014 before becoming Prime Minister.
The state government announced on Sunday that 'Vikas Saptah' (Development Week) will be celebrated annually from October 7, the day Modi took oath as Gujarat's 14th chief minister in 2001.
The decision to observe the week from October 7 to 15 was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
On Monday, Patel, along with his ministers and senior bureaucrats, gathered at the legislative assembly podium in Gandhinagar to pledge their commitment to realising Modi's vision of making India a developed nation, according to an official release.
The state government noted that Gujarat's development journey began under Modi's leadership 23 years ago.
A portal, https://pledge.mygov.in/bharat-vikas/, was launched on the occasion to enable people to take the 'Bharat Vikas Pledge' online as part of the Development Week celebrations, the release said, adding that people will also receive a certificate after taking the pledge.
During the week, various events will be held, including cultural presentations by local artists and 'Vikas Walks' at 23 locations, such as the Statue of Unity and Surat Diamond Bourse.
