Bollywood and its connection with politics is nothing new. Several known B-town actors have taken up political roles in the past. Today, the focus is on Shatrughan Sinha, whose political career has gained substantial mileage over a period of time.
After being associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, Sinha tried his luck in the politics of West Bengal, too, by joining the Trinamool Congress. In 2022, he joined the ruling party in the state to contest by-elections from Asansol Lok Sabha constituency. He won from the seat by defeating a known BJP face from the state Agnimitra Paul.
This time, too, the TMC has restored its faith in the veteran actor and politician by fielding him from the same Lok Sabha constituency. And he seems pretty confident about his winning prospects.
Earlier, when the BJP released its list of 20 Lok Sabha candidates from the state, it had given a ticket to Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh from the Asansol constituency. Following the development, there was an uproar in the state as the ruling TMC condemned the decision of nominating someone who introduces songs that show Bengali women in a poor light.
Pawan withdrew his nomination and now the speculations are rife that Bhojpuri actress Akshara Singh will be BJP’s next catch for the constituency. However, this appears more like a rumour as Akshara is already associated with election-strategist-turned-socialist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj— it is touted to be a political platform to transform society, the beginning of which has been from Bihar.
While the BJP has not unveiled who will be its Asansol Lok Sabha candidate, Sinha is confident of sweeping the polls. He expressed an unadulterated approach towards whoever contests against him from Asansol.
Whether it will be Bhojpuri actor Akshara Singh or anybody else, an undaunting spirit shapes Sinha’s demeanour to win the ensuing parliamentary polls.
The seat is presently being represented by Sinha, who is confident of retaining it. He used the occasion to defend the image of the TMC, which got tarnished owing to the Sandeshkhali incident.
Sinha, further, said, “I am not a Bihari or a Bengali, I am a Hindustani.”
Moreover, he also expressed concern over BJP’s chant of winning 400-seat in this election. And stated that they would hardly retain 150 to 200 seats.
