The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a central government initiative to provide housing for the common people, has been marred by reports of misuse.

In Uttar Pradesh, reports have surfaced of 11 women allegedly misappropriating the first instalment of government funds and absconding with their lovers. This has caused a significant uproar in the state and has garnered widespread attention online.

According to a report by Moneycontrol, aggrieved husbands have lodged complaints, leading the authorities to suspend further payments to those involved.

An incident was reported in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh. The reports stated that approximately 2,350 beneficiaries in the district received funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme. These beneficiaries are said to be from Thuthibari, Sheetlapur, Chatia, Ramnagar, Bakul Diha, Khasra, Kishunpur, and Medhauli villages.

According to the reports, many of these houses have already been completed. Out of the 2 thousand beneficiaries, around 11 women allegedly received the first instalment of Rs 40,000 and left their husbands.

The women absconded with their lovers, taking the money. It's important to note that under this central government scheme, there is a provision for the authorities to demand the return of funds if any irregularities are reported. A similar occurrence was previously reported in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, the government provides assistance to poor and middle-class families in constructing permanent homes. Approximately Rs 2.5 lakh is provided for building the houses, and the allocation of funds is based on the families' financial situation.
