As work on the Special Summary Revision (SSR) begins in Jharkhand, a major update has emerged regarding the state’s electoral records. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Tuesday announced that around 12 lakh voters will be removed from the current electoral roll.
These include individuals who have shifted to other places, deceased voters, and those found registered at more than one location.
According to the CEO, mapping of 1,61,55,740 voters has already been completed using data from the previous SSR. The CEO shared the information during a review meeting held at the Nirvachan Sadan with Assembly Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and all Assistant Electoral Officers.
Kumar informed officials that other components of the voter list mapping process are still underway. He instructed them to carry out parental mapping for voters who have migrated from other states.
For this, they have been asked to use the CEO portals of the respective states or the Election Commission of India’s website. Prioritising parental mapping, he said, would significantly reduce the number of documents voters must submit during the SSR, making the process smoother for citizens.
The CEO also directed officials to identify low-performing Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and provide them with batch-wise training. He emphasized that no eligible voter should be left out during the revision exercise.
Officers have been asked to resolve the issues faced by BLOs and extend all necessary support.
Addressing challenges faced by BLOs, Ravi Kumar said that those unable to trace voter details from previous SSR records should seek help from the Help Desk Manager at their respective district headquarters.
He reiterated that the success of the SSR depends on the accuracy of voter mapping and the effectiveness of ground-level execution.
