Twelve-year-old climate and environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam is set to inaugurate a new house for socio-political activist Totomshana Nongshaba of Heirok on July 26.
The initiative marks the beginning of her ambitious plan to construct 100 homes for victims of the ongoing Manipur violence and other underprivileged families in her native Manipur.
The dedication ceremony will be attended by Dr. Tirupati Panigrahi, chairman of Hi-Tech Group, as the chief guest, along with various foreign dignitaries and
local eminent personalities.
Licypriya funded the construction of Totomshana's house, completing it within 20 days of her promise. The house features tile flooring, a modular kitchen, false ceilings, and a toilet.
In a call to action, Licypriya invited the people of Manipur to attend the inauguration at 9 am on July 26.
She pointed out that her initiative is a response to the devastating hailstorm in May, which she considers a significant impact of climate change.
"I am not just building homes, I am building hope for the people of Manipur," Licypriya stated.
"This project is not only for the climate change victims and the poor but also for those displaced by the ongoing violence in Manipur who are currently living in relief camps. This will foster hope and confidence to restore peace in the state. It is not the time to wait solely for government action; everyone has a responsibility," she added.
The house, constructed on a budget of Rs 3 lakh, was completed in 20 days.
Contributions included Rs 17,835 donated online by well-wishers.
