Spills from the ghastly sexual assault of a 12-year-old student in the region of Palakkad are taking a turn towards the administrative staff of the institution since the District Educational Officer (DEO) opened an investigation into the actions of the Head Mistress. The incident happened barely 24 hours since the class teacher of the victimised child was suspended for the crime of rape and giving the juvenile alcohol.

The investigation into the school administration was triggered by a report from the Assistant Educational Officer (AEO), which not only pushed for the teacher's removal but also recommended the disqualification of the school management. Authorities are now at the school to determine if there was a delay or a cover-up attempt by the Head Mistress after the incident was first brought to light.

The details of the crime are particularly disturbing. The teacher, a native of Mylapputhara who had been at the school for six years, reportedly used a "treat" for winning a competition as a ruse to lure the boy. After buying the student a biryani, he allegedly took him to a rented house where the assault occurred. The nightmare only came to an end after the boy confided in a friend, whose parents alerted the school.

While the school eventually filed a police report on Sunday, investigators are looking into exactly when the management first learned of the trauma. The teacher is presently under arrest with numerous charges leveled against her, kidnapping, rape by a public servant, violation of POCSO, as well as violation of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act charges. If the DEO realises that the Head Mistress or the administration was tardy in coming up with a report, more actions will follow within the week.
