In what could add fresh trouble for Punjab DGP (Vigilance) Sharad Satya Chauhan, his name appears in a FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case involving reader to the Vigilance Bureau chief and others.

 

Though Chauhan has not been named as an accused in the FIR, his name appears in the case details recorded by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau.

 

As per the agency’s verification report dated May 11, prepared after the FIR lodged on May 8, accused Raghav Goyal and Vikas Goyal allegedly sought Rs 13 lakh from the complainant. They claimed the demand was made on behalf of public officials, including OP Rana, Reader to DG (Vigilance), Punjab, and the DG (Vigilance), Punjab, to help close a pending complaint against Amit Kumar in the DG office.

 

The FIR also says that a written complaint was submitted by State Tax Officer Amit Kumar, a resident of Abohar, on May 8. He claimed that Raghav Goyal and his father Vikas Goyal, both private contractors, were acting as middlemen for Sharad Satya Chauhan, DG (Vigilance), Punjab, and his reader OP Rana. They allegedly sought money to settle or close a complaint pending against him in the office.

 

The alleged offences being investigated include criminal conspiracy, demand for illegal gratification by a public servant, and using corrupt or unlawful means to influence a public servant or exercise personal influence.

 

The accused named in the FIR registered at the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau police station in Chandigarh on May 11 include OP Rana, reader to the DGP (Vigilance); Vikas Goyal and his son Raghav Goyal from Malout, along with unknown public and private persons.

 

The FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a corruption case against the reader to the Vigilance Bureau chief and three others also mentions the name of Punjab DGP (Vigilance) Sharad Satya Chauhan. This could add to the senior police officer’s troubles in the coming days.

 

Although Chauhan has not been named as an accused in the FIR, his name appears in the contents of the case registered by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau.

 

According to the agency’s verification report dated May 11, which was prepared after the FIR registered on May 8, accused Raghav Goyal and Vikas Goyal allegedly demanded Rs 13 lakh from the complainant. They claimed it was on behalf of public servants, including OP Rana, Reader to DG (Vigilance), Punjab, and the DG (Vigilance), Punjab, for helping close a complaint pending against Amit Kumar in the DG office.

 

The FIR further states that a written complaint was filed by State Tax Officer Amit Kumar, a resident of Abohar, on May 8. He alleged that Raghav Goyal and his father Vikas Goyal, both private contractors, were acting as intermediaries for Sharad Satya Chauhan, DG (Vigilance), Punjab, and his reader OP Rana. They allegedly demanded money to get a complaint against him closed or settled in the office.

 

The alleged offences under inquiry include criminal conspiracy, demand for illegal gratification by a public servant, and taking undue advantage to influence a public servant through corrupt or illegal means or personal influence.

 

Those named as accused in the FIR filed at the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau police station in Chandigarh on May 11 are OP Rana, reader to the DGP (Vigilance); Vikas Goyal and his son Raghav Goyal from Malout; along with unidentified public and private persons.
