Satyam’s father said their field is located close to a forested area, with a well about 40 metres from their house. On Saturday evening, the boy had gone there and was playing when the leopard attacked.

A 13-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district displayed extraordinary courage and presence of mind after surviving a leopard attack in his village. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Kursi Khapa village under the Pipariya forest beat. Satyam Thakur, a Class VIII student, was near a field when a leopard suddenly emerged from nearby bushes and attacked him.

Instead of panicking, Satyam fought back. He grabbed the leopard by its neck and shouted for help. In the struggle, he managed to strike and push the animal away, forcing it to retreat momentarily.

As the commotion grew and family members raised an alarm, the leopard eventually fled into the dense forest.

Satyam later recounted that he had been playing near a well when the leopard attacked. While defending himself, he sustained injuries to his stomach and legs from the animal’s claws.

Hearing his screams, his father Mahendra Singh Thakur and nearby villagers rushed to the spot. By the time they arrived with sticks and raised an alarm, Satyam had already managed to push the leopard away.

Satyam’s father said their field is located close to a forested area, with a well about 40 metres from their house. On Saturday evening, the boy had gone there and was playing when the leopard attacked.

“At around 7 pm, we heard his screams and rushed there. We saw the leopard grappling with him. By God’s grace and his bravery, he survived,” he said.

A team from the forest department rushed the injured boy to a hospital in a government vehicle. According to officials, immediate assistance of Rs 1,000 was provided for treatment, with further support assured.

Doctors confirmed that Satyam received initial medical care and his condition is stable.

Officials noted that the number of leopards in the nearby Satpura Tiger Reserve has been increasing steadily. Over the past three months, more than 20 leopards have been spotted in the Pipariya circle.

Forest authorities added that sightings near rural areas are on the rise, suggesting that the actual number of leopards within dense forest regions could be even higher.
