A horrific case has emerged from Hubli, where a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three teenagers, aged between 14 and 15, while her parents were away from home. According to local police, the suspects — who live in the same neighbourhood — lured the girl to an isolated, abandoned area to carry out the assault.
The Hubli police commissioner confirmed that all three accused have been taken into custody. Two are currently high school students, while the third is reportedly a dropout. The investigation has taken an even darker turn with the girl’s parents alleging that the boys used a mobile phone to record the assault, using the footage to threaten her into silence. At present, the authorities are examining the suspects' phones to verify the claims, and a case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
This news comes alongside a chilling report from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where a six-year-old girl was gang-raped and murdered on the night of January 2. In a desperate attempt to hide the crime, the attackers allegedly threw the child from a rooftop after the assault. Although she was rushed to a nearby health centre after being found in critical condition, doctors were unable to save her.
Both incidents have caused widespread consternation about the welfare of minors as well as the sinister side of crimes committed by juveniles. Police forces in both regions have committed to conducting fact-finding missions with the local communities demanding velocity in the hunt for justice in the wake of extreme violence.
