A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a village under Chabbewal police station limits on Wednesday. The victim had accompanied her family to a work site on Tuesday night. She went to a nearby makeshift shelter (jhuggi) to fetch a pair of slippers she had left behind.
According to the police, when she did not return after some time, her parents went to look for her inside the shelter. On not finding her, they began searching and later found her in nearby bushes, where they allegedly saw Hardesh alias Bantu, who lived near the jhuggi, raping her.

On seeing the girl's parents, the accused fled from the spot. Bantu hails from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh. Based on the complaint of the victim's mother, an FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said the accused is absconding and efforts are underway to arrest him. Further investigation is underway.
