The Ludhiana West seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. The bypoll to Ludhiana West assembly seat in Punjab will take place on June 19 and the counting will be held on June 23.

The AAP has fielded Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Sanjeev Arora, who was the first candidate announced for the seat back in February. Arora (61), known for his social work, has represented Punjab in the Rajya Sabha since 2022.

The Congress has nominated former state minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who held the seat in 2012 and 2017 before losing to Gogi by 7,512 votes in 2022 Punjab assembly polls. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has named advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman as its candidate, while the BJP has fielded Jiwan Gupta.

According to election officials, 1,74,437 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the bypoll, including 89,602 men, 84,825 women, and 10 individuals from the third gender category.

The electorate also includes 100 service voters, 2,039 senior citizens, 2,896 young voters aged 18–19, 17 overseas voters, and 1,234 persons with disabilities (PWDs).

To ensure smooth polling, 192 polling stations will be set up across 66 locations in the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency.
