A 14-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy at the district hospital in Pithoragarh on Tuesday, following which police registered a case against the alleged father of the newborn, officials said.
LS Khati, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in the district, said the minor was admitted in severe labour pain. As her guardian, the committee completed the required formalities and signed consent documents, enabling doctors to carry out a surgical procedure.
Khati said that an FIR has been lodged at the Munsyari Police Station under Sections 64(1), 87 and 5/6 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

According to officials, a man claiming to be the child’s father is employed in Pune. The minor told the committee that her parents had separated when she was very young. She reportedly came into contact with the man last year and later moved to Pune, where she became pregnant.
Khati added that after being discharged from the hospital, both the girl and her newborn will be placed in a special adoption agency. They will be provided care, protection and support there until the girl turns 18.
