A 16-year-old girl died after falling from the fifth floor of her school hostel in Kotkhai, Shimla on Sunday morning.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said a DSP-level officer was probing the suspected suicide. So far, the police have not found any signs of foul play.
The girl, whose name is not revealed, was a Class X student at the private co-educational school.
After receiving the information, the police took her body to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, for a post-mortem, which is scheduled for Monday.
Police are questioning fellow students and school authorities as part of the investigation. No suicide note has been found.
The girl’s parents have reached Shimla and are helping the police, who continue to look into the circumstances surrounding her death.
