In a remarkable achievement, 17 girls from Khunti district, a region affected by Maoist activities, have made history by successfully passing the JEE Main 2025 exam. The results were announced on Tuesday evening.
This marks the first time that such a significant number of girls from a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) school in the state have cleared the prestigious national-level examination.
As part of the 'Sampoorna Shiksha Kavach' initiative launched by the Khunti District Administration, students from the KGBV school in Kalamati excelled in the JEE Main 2025.
Recognising this accomplishment, the District Administration praised the students’ hard work. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lokesh Mishra congratulated the girls and extended his best wishes for their future.
"This is a moment of immense pride for our district. These 18 students have demonstrated that, despite limited resources, rural girls can achieve outstanding success in national-level competitive exams if given the right guidance and support," said Mishra.
He assured that the administration would continue to provide comprehensive support to students in the years ahead.
Through this initiative, the girls received continuous digital education support, personalised mentoring, and model test series, which played a crucial role in their success.
This forward-thinking programme has not only helped students clear the JEE Main exam but has also motivated them to pursue admission in IITs and other prestigious institutions.

Interestingly, in the previous year, 23 students from the same school had appeared for JEE Main 2024, and 22 of them successfully cleared the exam.
Additionally, in 2023, ten girls from the school, preparing for engineering under the ‘Sapno Ki Udaan’ program, had also qualified for JEE Main.
To tackle the challenges of low female literacy and limited interest in science education among girls in Khunti, the district administration had launched the ‘Sapno Ki Udaan’ initiative at the Kalamati centre of KGBV in October 2021.
This programme aims to strengthen the educational foundation for girls in the district by offering both online and offline coaching in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics for students in classes 11 and 12 at KGBV Khunti, helping them prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams.
