Women entrepreneurs in Tripura have emerged as major beneficiaries of central government schemes, with more than ₹2,900 crore sanctioned to over 5.24 lakh women-led enterprises under flagship credit programmes over the past four financial years.

Data placed before the Rajya Sabha show that financial inclusion and entrepreneurship support for women in the state have expanded significantly under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) and the Stand-Up India Scheme. From FY 2022–23 to FY 2025–26, as many as 5,24,597 loan accounts belonging to women entrepreneurs were sanctioned an aggregate amount of ₹2,903.21 crore.

The figures were shared in a written reply by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, outlining the outcomes of multiple skill development and livelihood programmes implemented in Tripura.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PMJANMAN), 1,697 women in the state have been trained over the last three years, underlining a targeted focus on tribal women. The Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) scheme has provided vocational training to 9,742 women between FY 2022–23 and October 31, 2025.

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0) has also recorded substantial participation, with 14,772 candidates trained and 9,796 certified between FY 2023–24 and FY 2025–26, a large share of them women.

Women’s participation in technical education has remained steady under the Craftsmen Training Scheme, with enrolment in Industrial Training Institutes recorded at 721 in 2022, 704 in 2023 and 671 in 2024.

Livelihood generation through self-help initiatives has also gained traction. Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), 10,851 women were trained in Tripura, of whom 8,080 were successfully settled into livelihoods. Rural Self Employment Training Institutes in the state received cumulative funding of ₹575.21 crore over four years.

The rural entrepreneurship ecosystem was further strengthened through the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme, under which 1,739 enterprises were established in the last three years.

Women-led micro-enterprises received margin money assistance under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, with ₹12.43 crore disbursed to 533 enterprises under general schemes and ₹10.37 crore extended to 411 rural enterprises between FY 2022–23 and FY 2024–25.

Under the Stand-Up India Scheme alone, ₹53.22 crore was sanctioned to 263 women-led enterprises during the same period.

However, urban livelihood outcomes remain uneven. Only 10 women were trained under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission in the past three years, with none placed, pointing to gaps in employment linkage at the urban level.

Taken together, the data underline a sustained policy push to expand women’s entrepreneurship and skill development in Tripura, particularly in rural and tribal areas, while also signalling the need for sharper interventions in urban employment pathways.
