A founder of a private college in Haryana, Amarjeet Singh, was allegedly killed by his two close friends. The accused — Vikram (24) from Sirsa and Baljinder Singh (40) from Muktsar convinced Amarjeet to come to Morni in Panchkula on July 3. When the victim reached there, they shot him, and left his body in the bushes. It was discovered four days later, in a decomposed state.
The accused, both property dealers, had been living in Amarjeet’s Mohali house and had opened an office there. Initial police investigations reveal that extortion could be the motive. According to family members, the accused were aware of Amarjeet’s wealth and tried to exploit his trust for personal gain.
On the evening of July 3, Amarjeet called his house help, Duni Ram, asking him to urgently arrange ₹35–40 lakh and bring it to Sector 88, Mohali. Duni immediately told this to Amarjeet’s wife and son Rahul.
The victim’s son grew concerned as his father had never spoken about such large transactions before. Later, the family filed a police complaint. Amarjeet had left home that day after parking his car and left with someone. His phone remained unreachable after he called his family for money.
The police started contacting people who had been living in or visiting Amarjeet’s home. The probe eventually led to Vikram and Baljinder, who confessed to their crime during interrogation. The accused told the police that they had called Amarjeet to Morni under the pretext of a discussion.
Amarjeet’s brother-in-law Anil Mehra had told the police that Amarjeet and Vikram had property investments in Mohali. Amarjeet had loaned money to Vikram and allowed him to use the second floor of his Mohali home for office work. The third floor had just been vacated by a tenant. The police suspect Vikram’s motive was to seize both money and property.
