The Phillaur police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defacing the statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in Nangal village by writing Khalistani slogans on it.
The accused have been identified as Sukhveer Singh and Avtar Singh, both residents of Noorpur Channa in the Nakodar area. The arrests were made following a targeted operation conducted under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Jaspreet Kaur Bath and the supervision of DSP Sarwan Singh Ball and Inspector Sanjeev Kapur.
Jalandhar DIG Naveen Singla confirmed that a case has been registered under FIR No. 85, dated March 31. The case includes charges under Sections 299 and 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
According to the DIG, the accused had been engaged in a series of provocative actions over the past month. These included displaying Khalistani slogans and flags at various public locations such as educational institutions, government offices, and public infrastructure across Nakodar, Jalandhar, Delhi, and Una.
During the investigation, police seized a motorcycle and four mobile phones from the accused. These items are currently undergoing forensic examination to gather further evidence in the case.
