Two persons were arrested on Friday in a joint operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in connection with the killing of six Naga villagers in Manipur's Leilon Vaiphei village earlier this year.

According to the Manipur Police, the operation was launched in the early hours of Friday based on credible intelligence inputs. Security forces conducted a targeted search operation at Leilon Vaiphei village, leading to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the killings.

The accused have been identified as Pradip, son of Tomba, and Ayingbi, wife of Pradip, both residents of Leilon Vaiphei village.

Police said search and seizure operations were carried out during the raid, and all necessary legal formalities are being completed.

The arrests are linked to the killing of six Naga villagers in Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, 2026, a case that has been under investigation by the NIA with support from the Manipur Police and central security agencies.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the motive behind the killings or the role allegedly played by the two accused, citing the ongoing investigation.

The joint operation reflects continued efforts by central and state agencies to investigate incidents of violence in Manipur and bring those responsible to justice.

Naga students seek President's intervention in Manipur killings

Meanwhile, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has urged President Droupadi Murmu to order a transparent, impartial and time-bound investigation into the killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur and ensure greater protection for vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing ethnic conflict.

The appeal was made through a memorandum submitted to the President via Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav after a candlelight vigil held in Kohima on Wednesday under the theme 'Justice for Six Nagas'.

According to the NSF, the six civilians were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13, and their bodies were recovered near a Kuki-Zo village on June 10. The federation alleged that the victims were abducted, tortured and killed by armed Kuki militants.

The student body also submitted a fact-finding report based on a field visit to Naga-inhabited areas in Manipur, documenting incidents of violence, displacement, destruction of property and disruption of livelihoods.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation, the NSF said Naga communities continue to face threats, restrictions on movement and fear for their safety. It urged the Centre to ensure justice for the victims, strengthen civilian protection and review existing security and ceasefire arrangements in the conflict-hit region.
