Heavy rain in Dehradun triggered a cloudburst in Dehradun, damaging houses and roads and washing away shops and cars.

Two individuals went missing as torrential rain triggered a cloudburst in Dehradun early Tuesday, demolishing homes and roads, and sweeping away vehicles and shops.

The cloudburst struck late at night, prompting authorities to relocate affected residents to safer locations. Rescue and relief efforts are underway to locate the two missing persons.

Upon receiving news of the incident, District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumkum Joshi, and other officials hurried to the scene to evaluate the damage. He instructed the rescue teams to locate and save the two missing individuals as quickly as possible.

Officials from the NDRF, SDRF, PWD, and other teams are working tirelessly, using bulldozers at the site. All schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun are currently closed due to the heavy rain and cloudburst, as per an order issued by the District Magistrate.

Heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and landslides have wreaked havoc across various parts of Uttarakhand this monsoon, including Dharali-Harsil in Uttarkashi, Tharali in Chamoli, Chenagad in Rudraprayag, Sainji in Pauri, Kapkot in Bageshwar, and parts of Nainital district.

According to an official estimate, natural disasters in Uttarakhand since April this year have claimed 85 lives, injured 128 people, and left 94 missing. On 11 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dehradun to review relief and rescue operations in the disaster-stricken areas of Uttarakhand and announced a financial relief package of Rs 1,200 crore for the affected regions.

Apart from this, further assistance will also be considered based on the recommendations of the inter-ministerial team which recently visited the affected areas of the state to assess the extent of damage caused by the natural calamities.

PM Modi also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 for those left injured in a series of natural calamities that hit various districts of the hill state this monsoon.

He announced comprehensive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme to children orphaned due to the recent floods and landslides in the state.

During his visit, PM Modi interacted with NDRF and SDRF personnel, and disaster volunteers who lent a helping hand at ground zero during the disasters and praised their efforts. The Prime Minister’s visit to Uttarakhand followed a recent visit by an inter-ministerial team from the Centre to the affected areas of the state to assess the damage.
