In a major anti-Naxalite operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, 31 Naxalites were gunned down by security forces on Sunday. However, the fierce encounter claimed the lives of two security personnel and left two others injured.
The exchange of fire occurred in the dense forests of Indravati National Park during a joint operation conducted by various security forces. A senior police official confirmed that the martyred personnel were from the District Reserve Guard and the Special Task Force.
Inspector General (IG) Bastar P Sundarraj stated, “A total of 31 Naxalites have been killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests under the National Park area of District Bijapur. Search operation is going on.”
The bodies of all 31 Naxalites were recovered from the encounter site. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased.
A substantial cache of weapons and explosive materials was seized from the site. Reinforcements were promptly dispatched, and search operations are continuing in the area to secure the region.
The injured personnel, reported to be in a stable condition, were initially treated on-site and are being shifted to a higher medical centre for better care.
This encounter marks one of the most significant successes in recent anti-Naxalite operations in Chhattisgarh. However, the loss of brave security personnel has cast a shadow over the operation.
As the region braces for heightened security measures, the forces remain vigilant, aiming to bring lasting peace to Bijapur and its surrounding areas.
