Two tribal men were abducted, hauled to a tree and beaten allegedly by a group of individuals for eloping with whom they were in relationship with Panchmahal district of Gujarat, police added on Friday. The two women were also beaten up by their kin and village people, they added.
Ten individuals were taken into custody for the act that was caught on camera.
A clip of the two individuals roped to a tree and beaten up by a mob of people wielding sticks and fists was circulated widely on social media, which led to police inquiry into the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police NV Patel added.
"More investigation of the video revealed it was filmed at Tadva village in Shehra police station jurisdiction of the district on Thursday," Patel informed the media.
The Shehra police filed an FIR on a complaint filed by the two victims, who alleged that they were abducted by the arrested accused, some of whom were relatives of the women with whom they were dating, Patel said.
The relatives of women were furious with the couple for eloping with them and they traced the pair to Mehmadabad in neighbouring Kheda district.
