As many as 20 persons were injured after a traditional mud house collapsed during a marriage function in Malai Kot village of Mahoor tehsil in Reasi district on Saturday night, officials said.
According to police officials, the incident took place at around 9:30 pm at the residence of Mohammad Ishaq, son of Jalal Din, where the ceremony was taking place. A large number of relatives, guests, and people from nearby villages had gathered to participate in the function.
Sources revealed that the kuccha (mud) house collapsed on the guests due to the excessive load of people present inside the structure.
The sudden collapse triggered panic among the guests and locals, with many rushing to rescue those trapped under the debris.
The rescuers then informed us that at least 20 people had sustained injuries of varying degrees in the incident.
Later on, police personnel from Mahoor also joined the rescue operation, retrieving more people from the debris.
The injured were quickly rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Mahoor for medical treatment. However, officials later confirmed that the majority of people who suffered minor injuries were discharged, while six to seven people are still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident, while damage assessment is going on.
