Twenty-one houses were set ablaze in Nawada district, Bihar, on Wednesday evening, with police suspecting a land dispute behind the attack.
No injuries were reported, but the incident has sparked tension in the Manjhi Tola area under Mufassil police station.
Police have detained 10 people in connection with the arson, while efforts are underway to apprehend others involved.
Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman said, “A call was received around 7.30 pm that some houses were set on fire in Manjhi Tola. Police immediately reached the spot along with fire engines. It took some time to douse the blaze.”
Dhiman added, “Preliminary investigation suggests that land dispute is the reason for the incident. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.”
Villagers reported shots being fired into the air during the attack. Police have since restored order in the area.
“The situation is now under control, and a large police contingent has been deployed to prevent any flare-up,” said Dhiman.
